Mayor: Look Out For Water Sample Scam

Posted: 5:44 pm EST January 15, 2008Updated: 8:34 pm EST January 15, 2008

Martins Ferry Mayor Phil Wallace told NEWS9 his office received several calls Tuesday morning from concerned residents warning him that suspicious people were coming to their door, claiming to work for the city and asking for a sample of their water.

Wallace is urging area residents not to fall for this scam. He said the city is not out testing the water, and if they ever do in the future he will notify local people first.

Wallace said he's not sure who is doing this, or why but he fears it can't be good.

Anyone with any information is asked to call either the mayor's office, or the Martins Ferry Police Department.
