Wild Escape Theme Park Permits Could Be Coming Soon

POSTED: 4:11 pm EST January 16, 2008
UPDATED: 10:39 am EST January 17, 2008

Ohio County Administrator Greg Stewart and Wild Escape Theme Park Developer Steve Minard are pleased with the way things are looking for the project right now, but are waiting with their fingers crossed.

The permits for the site's development could be in as early as February.

The Wild Escape Theme Park is designed as an indoor water park, roller coasters and shopping, involving a 30-acre section of land at the end of the current Cabela Drive.

The Army Corps of Engineers is gathering comments from other agencies, like the Environmental Protection Agency and wildlife associations. The Corps will pass those comments along to the county.

The concerns and comments from the agencies will be the determination for when the project will be granted permits, officials said.

If each comment simply gives the OK to the plans, permits could be granted and development can begin.

However, the comments could contain more questions that the county would have to respond to, then wait for another response from that specific agency.

"It's a little hard to pinpoint an exact date because we don't know what the details of those responses will be coming back. Once we have [the comments] we could respond quickly. So within a week [of getting the responses], have something to the Army Corps," said Stewart.

Steve Minard told NEWS9 he expected this phase of the project to take the longest and is pleased with the way things look now.
