Mountaineer Casino Brings More Jobs Than Projected

Posted: 11:30 am EST January 18, 2008Updated: 1:29 pm EST January 18, 2008

Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort officials announced Thursday they have surpassed their expectations of new jobs coming to the area because of legalized table gaming.

The average salary of casino workers is $35,000, which is a salary that President and CEO Ted Arneault promised when he asked voters to legalize table gaming last spring, he said.

Originally, casino officials thought the addition of table games would create 400 new jobs; however, that number has increased to 750 new jobs, they said.

Casino officials said their focus is on the future of Mountaineer, officials said, with a motor home park in the works for the spring. It will open across the street from the resort for visitors who travel in RVs, officials announced.
