Some people admit to playing hooky from work just to catch a break, others said they had a good reason. But NEWS9 discovered a Web site that is helping people fake it.

The Web site offers excuses from doctors, jury duty, even funerals. They’re all bogus, and they cost money.

For $20, NEWS9 printed off doctor's excuse templates from www.myexcusedabsence.com.

Several local folks NEWS9 asked thought the fake excuses looked legitimate. Some even admitted to thinking about using them.

NEWS9 took the fake doctors' excuses to Jefferson County Director of Job and Family Services Nick Balakos.

"Well, they look very good. They look professional," said Balakos.

Balakos said he wasn’t surprised though. He said his office has sought prosecution for more than 200 fraud cases recently, where people used programs similar to myexcusedabsence.com to fake rent receipts or use doctors notes to receive benefits.

"If they can do this, they can print off checks. They can print out anything," said Balakos.

Balakos advised other employers to double check any excuses.

"We'd take this and try to verify it. We'd call the doctor's office," said Balakos.

Using a fake excuse is sneaky, and thanks to the World Wide Web it's easy -- but if you get caught, your time off could be permanent.
