Thrill-seeking Teen Stranded In Rushing Creek

Flood Waters Flip Young Rafters

UPDATED: 12:43 am EDT March 20, 2008

Emergency responders rescued a teen on Wednesday night after he got stuck in the middle of a creek's rushing waters.

Hancock County 911 dispatchers got a call at about 9 p.m. that a boy was stuck just off of off North Fork Road, near Kings Creek on a sandbar.

Crews arrived with all-terrain vehicles to search in the darkness for the teen.

NEWS9 talked to a witness on scene, who said he and his friends decided to go rafting on the high waters and fast currents.

Kyle Alkire said all of a sudden they lost control of the raft and his friend was stranded.

"Everything was going good for a minute and then the boat started getting a little bit rocky,” said Alkire. “Then he went around a right-hand turn and the whole boat went over on us."

Emergency crews did finally get to the teen Wednesday just after 10 p.m., and they brought him back to land safely.
