Moondog Bobblehead In High Demand

The man. The wheels. The legend.

Moondog has been riding the streets of Wheeling for decades. Sometimes you will see him flashing his lights, other times it's that trail of colorful plumage that catches your eye.

But Saturday night, Nailers’ fans will get the chance to see Moondog in a whole different way.

NEWS9 caught up with Moondog as he was riding the streets Friday. He said he hasn’t seen the bobblehead dolls yet, and it will be a surprise.

"I like it. It's no big deal or anything," said Moondog.

Moondog said he just got a haircut and a clean shave for the big night, and with the Nailers giving him a brand new pair of wheels -- he's excited to add them to the collection.

"I had 197 bicycles, but I got rid of all of them," said Moondog.

He said he won't be adding all the flags to the new bike, but he'll surely make it his own.

When asked why he thought so many people were fascinated with him, Moondog said, “I don't know why they picked me."

Maybe it’s because he's different. The 49-year old Wheeling native told NEWS9 he lives his life the way he wants to and that's what he's proud of.

Moondog will kick off the game Saturday, by throwing out the puck.

The bobbleheads are sure to go quick. There’s only 2,500 in stock. Season ticket holders and the first people through the doors will get first dibs.

Due to the high demand for Moondog bobbleheads, the Wheeling Nailers announced the rules and procedures for getting a Moondog bobblehead.
