POWHATAN POINT, Ohio -- Animal rescue crews are gathered near Powhatan Point Friday, working to save a horse stuck on a cliff, on a hillside along Route 7.The rescue crews are waiting for a group out of Maryland that specializes in large animal rescue. No one at the scene has the proper equipment to get to the horse that’s been stranded since Thursday afternoon. The Emergency Management Agency, members of an equine association and a veterinarian all arrived to try and save the horse.A member of Frog Pond Farm in Cambridge said that the horse has probably never been handled.Once the large animal rescue group arrives, they plan to secure lines at the top of the hill and propel down to the horse.“Our hopes are to be able to catch the horse, tranquilize the horse, secure him in a sling and on a board and then they’re going to get him down to the next full tier,” said Lisa Gordon of Frog Pond Farm.Rescue crews hope that will allow them to get to a grassy, more stable area along the hilltop. The horse is believed to have been stuck since Thursday.Once the horse is safe, animal rescuers said they want to get to several other horses living in an open area at the top of the hill so this doesn’t happen again.Stay with NEWS9 & WTOV9.com for more details.-Jasmine Lo & Denise Dehnart, NEWS9
