Body Found In River White Woman

The body found in the Ohio River late Wednesday is that of a white female, age 45-65, sheriff's deputies said Thursday.

People walking along the railroad tracks in the north end of Wellsville late Wednesday afternoon made the gruesome discovery.

The badly decomposed condition of the body was making identification difficult, Sheriff Mike White said.

The body was transported to the state medical examiner and is now waiting for a determination of the cause of death and identity.

The sheriff said the body could have been in the water for a month.

The medical examiner was scheduled to perform an autopsy on the body Thursday.

The sheriff is hoping the autopsy will reveal a cause of death.

Final autopsy results could take four to six weeks.
