Prosecutor Files Motion In Vukelic Case

The Jefferson County prosecutor is filing a motion to stop Steve Vukelic from requesting the court seal his record.Steve Vukelic is a Democratic candidate running for Jefferson County Commissioner. In March, Vukelic won the primary, and will appear on the general election in November.Jefferson County Prosecutor Tom Straus faxed a motion to NEWS9 Monday stating three main reasons why he’s opposing Vukelic’s request.Straus stated the court does not have jurisdiction to seal Vukelic’s records since he’s a two-time convicted DUI offender. Straus said that’s against Ohio’s revised code. The petition goes on to say that Vukelic’s record of his felony conviction cannot be sealed because they bear direct relationship to the commission position he seeks.Straus said the court must weigh Vukelic’s interests to have his conviction sealed against the legitimate needs of the government to maintain those records.NEWS9 has tried to contact Steve Vukelic in regard to the prosecutors motions but has not received a call back yet.Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for more details.
