Crash investigators in Marshall County plan to reconstruct an accident that sent a Cameron police vehicle rolling over a hillside while on the officer's way to a call. The officer is at home recovering from minor injuries. The cruiser he was driving was totaled and Sheriff John Gruzinskas said the officer was lucky to make it out of the crash in good condition. The sheriff said Michael Dougherty is a Marshall County deputy but serves part-time as a Cameron police officer.Dougherty was on his way to a domestic call with his lights and sirens on. As he was headed north on Route 250, Dougherty pulled off the side of the narrow roadway to let a tractor trailer pass, the sheriff said.Dougherty hit a soft spot in the berm, causing him to lose control of the SUV and roll several times down the embankment.According to the sheriff, crash reconstructionists will investigate the details.Gruzinskas said he wants the officer to be checked out at the hospital Thursday, just to be on the safe side. The sheriff said Dougherty was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, probably saving him from any major injuries.
