MARSHALL COUNTY, W. Va. -- Hundreds of people travel through the Glen Dale Narrows section of Route 2 each day and now a landslide could be putting drivers at risk.A concrete barrier barely lived up to the job it was once supposed to do: prevent rocks from hitting drivers.NEWS9 spotted one barrier that was destroyed by a large boulder that came crashing down from the hillside, landing inches from where drivers pass through each day.The stretch of roadway is familiar for its landslides and for some drivers who travel the roadway each day, they think it's a potential safety hazard.Brian Long of Glen Dale, W.Va., said it can be a hazard if there's a big boulder there and he said it should be taken care of because he thinks it's a safety hazard. In addition, he hopes some action is taken so something serious does not happen again."Safety is the most important thing. A lot of accidents have happened there and it needs to be handled quickly," said Long.NEWS9 has put a call into Bob Whipp, the area director for West Virginia State Highways and we are waiting for him to call us back on this issue.
