The Midcaps just experienced the joy of having their first child together.

"Her name's Paige Marie. She has his brown hair. She came out with a full head of hair," said new mom Heather Midcap.

Midcap got all the moral support she needed from her husband, Roger Midcap, despite the fact that he's 7,000 miles away in Iraq.

"It was nice to hear his voice taking me through everything because I was very nervous," Heather said.

A Webcam and a satellite connection through the Freedom Calls Foundation helped Marine Cpl. Midcap see the birth of his daughter Friday night inside a Wheeling Hospital delivery room.

"When something like this happens, if it gives some peace of mind to our American citizens then so be it. We're more than glad to do it," said Dr. Angelo Georges, Medical Director at Wheeling Hospital.

Most dads serving overseas miss the major milestones at home, but Roger got to see and hear everything throughout the labor that lasted nearly 12 hours.

"She's very alert. She came out screaming," said Heather. "They even put her up to the Webcam so he could see her."

This was the hospital's third Web cast birth, but the timing of this one makes it even more meaningful.

"It's my first mother's day. I'm pretty excited," Heather said.

Roger Midcap is expected to be back in the U.S. in September, when he’ll be able to see his daughter in person for the first time.
