MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. -- A man who deputies believe is a local school volunteer is facing drug charges. The Marshall County Sheriff said Richard Gooch, of Glen Dale, is a volunteer at Cameron Elementary. The sheriff’s department said Gooch is not a paid employee, but Superintendent Fred Renzella said he has not confirmed whether Gooch was ever inside the building.Deputies served a warrant on Gooch Thursday afternoon on a misdemeanor charge of possession of crack cocaine.Marshall County Sheriff John Gruzinskas said Gooch’s arrest stems from a drug-related arrest over the weekend at a Dairy Queen in Marshall County.Deputies arrested William Baker, who they said supplied Gooch with crack cocaine.Gruzinskas said Gooch paid Baker for a gram of crack cocaine with a check, making Gooch easy to track down.According to Gruzinskas, Gooch held private music lessons for students in his Glen Dale home -- the same house deputies said he had that crack-cocaine delivered to.“We have to consider the scenario in which he volunteered. He's volunteering at an elementary school, if he's engaging in some illegal activity, how is that going to influence the children he's in charge of?” said Gruzinskas.Renzella said if Gooch is a school volunteer, his relationship with the school will end immediately, because student safety is one of the school's top concerns.
