Police said vandals have struck Salem Cemetery twice now, first destroying several headstones in April and then spray painting throughout the area shortly thereafter.

The cemetery is located in Egypt Valley outside of Hendrysburg and Jill Thomas, who has family buried at the cemetery, told NEWS9 she is appalled by the recent destructive acts.

"Whoever is doing this doesn't have very much respect," Thomas said.

Thomas and her aunt Maxine Carpenter said many of their family members, including Carpenter's husband, are buried in Salem.

Carpenter said so far no harm has come to her loved one's headstones.

However, both Thomas and Carpenter said they hope to see someone caught for the crimes and soon.

Officers told NEWS9 they are actively investigating the case and are looking to make arrests.
