U.S. marshals in Dayton opn Thursday arrested a man suspected in a West Virginia slaying.

Shawn Brookins, 23, of Dayton, is wanted in connection with the March 16 shooting death of Eric Crayton.

Wheeling police say Brookins was the person who drove Crayton to the hospital. Brookins, who also suffered a gunshot wound, was treated and released from Ohio Valley Medical Center at the same time.

Police said Brookins originally provided investigators with details of where and how the shooting took place. In a news release from the Wheeling Police Departments’ Investigations Division, officials said they determined Brookins had fabricated details of what occurred and that the shooting took place in the 3500 block of Eoff Street.
