Pistol-Whipped Toronto Man Tells Bizarre Tale

A Toronto man is telling a bizarre tale to troopers out of Belmont County.

The man said he stopped at a rest area in one place, was pistol-whipped, and ended up hours away with $400 missing.

The Toronto man told troopers that around 8 p.m. Monday he was on his way to work when he stopped at a Monroe County rest area.

It was there he said a man approached him and pistol-whipped him. He isn’t sure what happened next.

He said he later woke up in the passenger seat of his truck in Athens, Ohio, injured and missing $400.

He was taken to a hospital for bumps and bruises on his head and troopers said they are investigating.

“They’re on their way to the Athens post to both re-interview the subject and process the vehicle for any evidence the trooper might have missed, and fingerprints,” said Sgt. Jim Tracy of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man has been released from the hospital and right now they are not releasing his name.
