Target 9 - Bus Inspections

The Ohio Valley has seen its share of school bus accidents. In fact, since the start of this year, there have already been about five incidents.

In a Target 9 investigation, NEWS9 discovered the reality of school bus safety.

Findings show, across the state of Ohio, more than 47,000 buses face inspection at least twice a year. Of those inspections, more than 40 percent of them pass without any violations, but a little more than 26 percent are caught with minor violations. What's more, at least 32 percent are temporarily put out of service, flunking the test completely.

Troopers said there are multiple things they could find wrong that would put the bus out of service until it's fixed.

One of the main things they check for, is making sure all emergency exits open so that if something would happen there's always a way out of the bus.

Despite all of the inspections, troopers say the thorough process in place could use improvement.
