JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- A watershed in Jefferson County that was known for being polluted is making a dramatic change. The director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency stopped in the valley to give residents results of a study that's been going on for years.EPA officials discovered a watershed in Bergholz is one of the cleanest in the entire state of Ohio. It's the same body of water that has been tested for acid mine runoff.Since the 1980's, the water has had a bad reputation for having acid mine runoff, so the Ohio EPA, along with other agencies decided to do a survey to test the quality. With a lot of work by state agencies and local organizations, the watershed made a dramatic improvement over the years. It's so clean, species of fish and insects that wouldn't dare live in polluted water are making it their new home, according to officials.
