Deputies: Illegal Immigrant Jumps Headfirst Over 75-Foot Wall

Belmont County deputies continue searching for a suspected illegal immigrant after they said he ran away during a traffic stop.

Deputies said it all started when they pulled over a van with California registration going eastbound on Interstate 70 near mile marker 222.

Deputies said there were 11 suspected illegal immigrants in the van. When deputies started to take them into custody, they said one of the immigrants took off running north across the interstate and jumped headfirst over a median wall into the westbound lane. Deputies said it was a 75-foot drop.

Deputies said he was able to crawl away, and after following footprints and a blood trail for three hours, they said he's still missing.

Deputies said the suspect is Erik Perez Hernandez. He was last scene wearing a dark yellow hooded sweatshirt and jeans, is between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches, and weighs about 150 pounds.

Deputies said they aren't sure if Hernandez is still alive.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Belmont County Sheriff's Department.
