Wheeling will soon be home to a new $8 million mental health care facility for children.

The facility is part of Ohio Valley Medical Center and is set to be built on land owned by the hospital on Eoff Street.

West Virginia Sen. Robert C. Byrd is working to secure $6 million in federal funding for the facility.

Hospital spokeswoman Maggie Espina said the remainder of the money will come from the hospital’s operational budget.

Construction is set to begin in the fall of 2009.
