Coroner's Investigator Faces Felony Charges In Ohio

A former investigator with the Jefferson County Coroner’s office, who already faced theft charges in West Virginia, faces felony charges in Ohio Wednesday.

David Workman is accused of stealing a dead man’s credit card at the Jefferson County morgue and using it at a strip club in Weirton, W.Va.

Workman has already been charged in West Virginia with fraudulent use of a credit card. Prosecutors in Ohio are charging Workman with theft in office.

“It’s my recommendation that we go back as far as he has been employed as a deputy coroner,” said Jefferson County Prosecutor Tom Straus.

Workman was employed at the corner’s office for seven years. The county coroner fired Workman last month when the theft allegations surfaced.

Straus said if Workman is found guilty of the charges in Ohio, he will never be able to serve in public office as an elected official or be employed by an elected official.
