Authorities Believe Arrests Will End Brooke County Break-Ins

Two people are in custody in Brooke County and authorities believe the arrests should put an end to a rash of home burglaries. The investigation is not over, but authorities believe they have the main suspects.

The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department, along with Weirton detectives, has been working on this case for about six weeks. Authorities said dozens of homes were burglarized over the past two months.

Officials said the investigation started in the Hooverson Heights area of the county after a rash of home burglaries were reported.

“They were going after anything, jewelry, money, and the one problem I had was firearms,” said Sheriff Richard Ferguson.

Ferguson said the suspects tried to sell the guns in exchange for drugs in Pittsburgh.

The sheriff’s department began working with Weirton detectives when home burglaries were reported in several areas of the city. The investigation of both departments led to the arrest of 19-year-old Joe Satathite, of Weirton and 20-year-old Rexal Sandy, of Follansbee.

Residents of Culler Road in Weirton, where one of the burglaries took place, said they will sleep better knowing that suspects have been apprehended.

"It's very scary (that) they were coming in the daytime and robbing people," said Paula Saver.

Sheriff Ferguson said the suspects knew some of the people who lived in the homes they burglarized and others were random burglaries.

Detective Robert Alexander of the Weirton Police Department said there are more warrants for other parties as well.
