Children March To Raise Awareness For Good Health

Children from The Freedom School at Laughlin Memorial Chapel set out with signs and songs in Wheeling on Friday to raise awareness of the need for healthy children.

The march was part of a National Day of Social Action around the country.

The group started at their 18th Street chapel and marched to Wheeling's Heritage Port Friday afternoon.

The Freedom School is a 6-week program that teaches a curriculum in the morning and sends students out for community activities in the afternoon.

Organizers said they want to spread the word that every child deserves a healthy start at life.

"We do need health benefits for our children. We need to look more closely at juvenile detention and arresting children. We're also talking about better education," said Marci Allen, of Freedom School.

The march wrapped up with songs and chants form the children and remarks from community members.
