Flames severely damaged a home in Bergholz overnight. The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

It was shortly after midnight when firefighters got the call and arrived at the home at 120 First Street.

Sharon Urban lives two houses down from where the fire broke out. She was watching television at the time.

“I heard a couple of pops and I told my husband, I said I don’t know what that sound was but something was going on outside,” said Urban. “When we came out it was on the back porch, the fire started in the back.”

The Bergholz, Amsterdam and Fox Township fire departments put out the flames. Neighbors said one person lived in the house but no injuries were reported.

The owner, who doesn’t live in the house now but grew up there, is very upset. He said he had many memories in the home.
