A Target 9 Investigation has found that a coroner's investigator accused of stealing a dead man’s credit card and using it at an exotic club was fired twice after a series of complaints. Before 52-year-old David Workman became an investigator for the Jefferson County coroner, he worked as an EMT for Saline Township.Papers obtained from township trustees show a series of complaints, warnings and ultimately termination. In 1994 trustees gave Workman a verbal warning, accusing him of inappropriately using ambulance lights to maneuver through traffic. In 1995, documents outline another verbal warning. Trustees said Workman responded to a crash and tried to call off the fire department. That’s an action trustees said he didn’t have the authority to take. Trustees said Workman refused to sign the warning. In 1996, trustees handed Workman a written warning for what they called very unprofessional conduct, accusing him of making comments about a patient and their family.Saline Township trustees suspended Workman in August 2000. Three months later, Workman was fired. In July 2006, Saline Township rehired Workman as an EMT and trustees said it didn’t take long for more trouble to start.Trustees said a check showed Workman had a suspended license while he was behind the wheel of an ambulance, transporting patients. Workman’s employment was terminated again. As of November 2007, Workman was no longer an employee.NEWS9 contacted David Workman for comment on his employment as a Saline Township EMT, the complaints against him and his termination. Workman did not answer the phone and has not returned the call.Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla is meeting with agents from the Ohio attorney general’s office Wednesday, requesting their involvement in the investigation.Stay with WTOV9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.
