Body Found In River, Investigators Say Death Suspicious

Authorities recovered a body found in the Ohio River in Brooke County, W.Va.

This is the fourth body in the past few months that has been found locally in the Ohio River, but this is the first time investigators are calling the death suspicious from the beginning.

A night of boating on the Ohio River led to hours of investigating by officers in the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Brooke County 911, around 10 p.m. Wednesday, boaters said they found what appeared to be a human body near the mouth of Short Creek, near the Brooke, Ohio County line.

Brooke County deputies and responders from the Windsor Heights Fire Department located the body and pulled it from the water.

“The body is on route or probably at the medical examiner’s office in Charleston, W.Va.,” said Chief Deputy Chuck Jackson.

Authorities are not releasing the sex of the body or any other details about the investigation, they will only say that it is being treated as a very suspicious death.

Chief Deputy Jackson said they may hear back from the coroner’s office Thursday afternoon.
