Suspect Escapes During Arrest, Leads Police On Chase

BELLAIRE, Ohio -- Mark Paugh, 37, is facing charges of obstructing justice and interfering with public services after an incident Saturday morning in Bellaire.According to a news release from Bellaire Police, Paugh was being handcuffed after an alleged assault incident in the area of West 23rd Street when an individual interfered and allowed Paugh to escape.Police reported that Paugh headed in the direction of a wooded area near McMahon’s Creek between State Route 147 and 149. Several departments throughout Belmont County joined in on the search and spotted him near the creek. Police said Paugh resisted arrest and had to be tazered, but he didn’t stop. Police said Paugh then assaulted officers and tried to escape. As a result, he was sprayed with mace before eventually being detained.Police said Paugh not only faces charges in connection with this incident, but also additional charges stemming from a fight Friday night in the BellVillage apartment complex in Bellaire.Police said Paugh was out on parole and has a long criminal record.
