Community Reacts To Teen's Death
A Shadyside teenager is dead after fighting for her life for nearly a month after a motorcycle crash, and Sunday her community told NEWS9 they're incredibly grief-stricken and mourning her loss.Devron Lunsford, 16 passed away Saturday."She had a lot of friends, she was loved, she's missed a lot and what happened was tragic," Shadyside resident Natalie Meadows said.Lunsford was a girl with big plans and big dreams for her future. In her own words, 10 years from now, she said she envisioned herself "starting her career, married with a family.""This whole town's in shock," Shadyside resident Deanna Merryman said.Lunsford's death is triggering an outpouring of love from those who surrounded her.All through Shadyside her name is written, because locals said with her gone, it's all they have to hold on to.Parents of Devron's fellow classmates don't know how her many friends will deal her loss."The kids are devastated," Merryman said, "it's going to be real tough to get the school year started."When thinking of how to express how Devron's death has touched Shadyside, people say they struggle to define the feeling."It's nauseating. I mean, you're just so upset that it's in your gut," Merryman said. What's more, locals said, is that they can't even begin to think of words for her family."I don't know if there are words," said Merryman.Instead of talking, locals said they're praying for her loved ones, and for now and always remembering Devron.
