Police in Bellevue, Penn., said they caught four inmates who escaped from the Columbiana County Jail on Monday, after police received a tip about a stolen car.

Sgt. Matthew Lucas said they caught Mark Foden, William Merritt, Jason Heffner and John Hamilton after a chase Monday afternoon.

The men escaped from the Columbiana County Jail in Lisbon sometime late Sunday or early Monday. However, Sheriff David Smith said his office wasn't notified until 6 a.m. He said he is investigating both inside and outside of the jail.

Columbiana County sheriff David Smith said he believes four escaped prisoners had outside help.

He said the inmates went into a storage closet, crawled through duct work that was just 2 feet wide at some parts, then climbed up to the roof where they jumped about 15 feet to their escape.

A Lisbon resident reported a car was stolen at 8:30 a.m. from Trinity Church Road. Smith said the theft is believed to be connected to the escape.
