Weirton Council Votes In Favor Of Getting Rid Of Chickens

Chickens are still clucking in the City of Weirton, but the City Council hopes to make the streets in the Kings Creek area flock-free soon.The Weirton City Council met Tuesday and voted in favor of paying the Department of Agriculture nearly $4,000 to get rid of the chickens for good.The Department of Agriculture is performing a study to see whether it can solve the poultry problem.Police Chief Bruce Marshall said the birds will be dealt with in a humane manner, but some listed methods to remove the chickens include netting, live trapping and sharp-shooting.The city’s work plan said the birds captured will be either buried or burned.Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.
