Franciscan University Students Involved In Crash; One Dead

Dispatchers said one person was killed and six others injured after a crash on U.S. Route 22.

The rollover crash happened in the eastbound lanes just outside of Weirton in Washington County, Pa., shortly before 5 p.m.

Sources told NEWS9 members of the University of Steubenville's Cross Country team were involved in the crash.

Police closed Route 22 eastbound and westbound at the Colliers Way exit. Traffic is being detoured off Colliers Way to Steubenville Pike. NEWS9 crews said traffic near the scene is very heavy.

Officials said there were seven people in the vehicle.

A young female died in the crash.

Four people were taken to Weirton Medical Center and two people were going to be airlifted to UPMC in Pittsburgh.
