Health Clinic: Pharmacy Remains Open

There was speculation that the Wheeling Health Right Clinic would close its pharmacy.

NEWS9 is being told the doors will remain open, and they will continue to provide life-saving medications.

But since Feb. 12, the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy and Health Right Clinics has been at odds over rules that the clinic's director said need to be relaxed, including having a pharmacist present to dispense medications or not allowing volunteers into the pharmacy area.

These are all requirements that cost money and, without volunteers, it would be harder for free clinics to give out medications, according to the director.

"We are the safety net for the working poor and we need to be able to help them," said clinic director Kathie Brown.

The West Virginia state Legislature will be meeting at the end of the month so both sides come to an agreement.
