City Takes Ownership Of Park
The Park in the Crawford Heights section of Martins Ferry has been under the ownership of the Cravat Coal Company in Harrison County for years.Thursday night at the City Council meeting, new ownership was turned over to the City of Martins Ferry, Ohio."I've got the deed in my pocket and as soon as it gets recorded, it will be ours,"s said Mayor Phil Wallace.Wallace was anxious to take over ownership of the new park so hundreds of residents can have another place to bring their kids."We're ecstatic the folks--probably close to 700-800 people-- will have another place to have a picnic, bring their kids and let them play and have a lot of fun," said Wallace. While the park is overgrown with weeds, Friday morning will be a different story because the city officials will be giving it a new look. They will be trimming the grass that has been in dire need of attention.Neighbors told NEWS9 that they are happy that the park is being revived and they can have a place where the children can play."There is a lot of children who are going to enjoy the park," said neighbor Ray McCoy.
