Democrats Wrap Up Convention; Republicans Get Ready

Nearly 200 excited Democratic voters gathered Thursday evening at the Bridgeport Eagles to watch an historic event, Sen. Barack Obama officially accepting the Democratic nomination. Now, Republicans are getting ready to have their own excitement as they anticipate Sen. John McCain's vice presidential choice to be announced Friday in the Buckeye State.

"It's great as you can see, tremendous support since Sen. Joe Biden is on the ticket," said Ed Good, Belmont County Democratic Part Chairman.

It's a great time for Obama supporters to unite and experience this event together.

"I just thought I’d come out, and I know it's going to be exciting," said Tom Kacsmar of Maynard, Ohio.

For Barnesville resident Mary Ellen Newport, she said she is excited to watch the speech with her friends.

Gene Miller of Martins Ferry said he voted Republican for 40 years and said those days are no longer.

"I've always voted Republican primaries and changed over and voted Democrat because we really need change in the Ohio Valley," said Miller.

Meanwhile, McCain is expected to announce his vice presidential choice tomorrow and voters are offering their suggestions.

"He should try to get someone who knows economics, because the news is showing he does not know economics and our economy," said Shane Clark.

Obama's acceptance speech comes 45 years to the day after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s " I Have a Dream" speech.
