A roadway expansion project started in Brooke County on Thursday, causing restrictions for more than 21,000 vehicles that travel the route each day.West Virginia Department of Highways officials said the southbound lane of Route 2 that turns into Main Street will be the focus of the work over the next month.Follansbee Mayor Tony Paesano said the entire project will cover about one mile of Route 2 and Main Street. It will take crews about two weeks to prep the shoulder of the road, then they will mill and pave the section.Highway officials said the milling and paving take place at night from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m., but said there will be lane restrictions during both portions of the project.Paesano said the drivers shouldn't be concerned."It's not going to be a problem or an inconvenience. The traffic will flow," Paesano said.He said many businesses rely on the upkeep of Route 2, and called the roadway "very important to us economically."The project is expected to cost around $600,000 and should be complete by the end of September or first week of October.
