Thursday, September 4, 2008 – updated: 12:58 pm EDT September 4, 2008

Thanks to an unidentified caller, a fugitive wanted on charges of sex crimes against a child was arrested in Belmont County.

Deputies said John J. Welshans, 33, of Bellaire, had been wanted out of Allegheny County, Pa., on two felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and a misdemeanor charge of corruption of minors.

Chief Joseph Hummel with the Belmont County sheriff's department said Pennsylvania authorities issued a nationwide warrant for Welshans' arrest in connection with the charges.

Hummel said the suspect is a truck driver and had been difficult to track down, but an anonymous tip alerted police that Welshans was back in town. He was arrested late Wednesday.

Welshans is being held in the Belmont County Jail awaiting an extradition hearing. Officials said he will need to go back to Pennsylvania to face the charges against him.
