Steubenville Slaying Suspect Wants Indictment Dismissed

A Steubenville man accused in the stabbing death of a woman more than 20 years ago wants his murder indictment dismissed.

In July, police arrested 52-year-old Michael Harris on charges of aggravated murder in connection with the 1987 stabbing death of 20-year-old Jill Howard.

On Friday, Harris' attorney filed a motion to suppress evidence and requested the murder indictment be tossed out.

Prosecutors have said new DNA evidence linked Harris to the killing.

A judge gave both sides an extra week to file any briefs, and is expected to make a ruling next week.

Harris previously pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was originally arrested 10 days after Howard’s death in 1987, but prosecutors felt there was not enough evidence to go to trial at that time.
