Officials have dropped charges of child endangerment against a local mother who was accused of leaving her child home alone.Sgt. James Wilson, of the Cambridge Police Department, said Guernsey County Children's Services could not support the charges after an investigation and court hearing.Wilson said he found the 6-year-old girl at the Columbiana Court apartment complex around 4 p.m. Sunday. He said neighbors reported the child running through the neighborhood yelling for her mother. After speaking with neighbors and the girl, Wilson said investigators had reason to believe the mother had not been around since the day before, prompting the child endangerment charge.Kelly Lynch, of Children's Services, said she could not provide details about the case due to confidentiality issues. However, Lynch said the child is safe and said the department would never have put the child back in the mother's care if they didn't believe she was safe. She said if charges would need to be filed against anyone in the future, Children's Services will contact the police department.
