Ohio Secretary Of State Reacts To Early Voting

Voters across the state of Ohio continued casting ballots Wednesday in early voting. NEWS9 caught up with the secretary of state in the to find out how it's going.

Opening early voting Tuesday was not only historic for Ohio voters, it was busy, according to Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

"Overall we had a very brisk group of voters coming in to vote -- it's going well. We had big turnout, but the boards are handling it quite well," said Brunner.

Brunner said giving voters the right to register and vote on the same day didn't come without controversy, and she's been battling it out in court.

"[We’ve been fighting] lawsuits dealing with overlapping of voting with voter registration deadline. They were all resolved in out favor,” said Brunner.

Meantime, her office is investigating whether local college students may have been violated after voter registration forms from Franciscan University went missing in the mail.

"We'll investigate as we're required to. If we do think there's something wrong we'll refer to the attorney general or another authority. We certainly hope there's no foul play here, that this is just mistakes that have occurred," said Brunner.

Brunner’s office is pairing up with the U.S. Postal Service to investigate whether there was any wrongdoing in the mailing mishap.
