A man suspected of several thefts is back in police custody.

Police said Zachary George, 22, confessed to two thefts. George was arrested Wednesday hiding in a closet at an apartment on state Route 213.

George is the suspect in many thefts, including one at Speedway in Steubenville.

He was arrested after that incident, but was released from police custody and never showed up for court. Days later, he was accused of stealing a wallet from a pregnant woman at the Ft. Steuben Mall.

Police also said he is accused of soliciting donations from a Steubenville bar after claiming to be a city worker back in August.

Further, this past weekend, a DiCarlo’s Pizza delivery man was robbed at knifepoint. Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said George admitted to that crime.

"He didn't deny it. To me, with what he did in Steubenville and at the mall with no mask, no nothing. It appeared to me that he almost wanted to get caught," said Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla.

Across the river in Weirton, police said they also want to question George about a car theft.

Detectives said George’s family believes drug use has been a factor and possibly the main reason he is suspected in so many cases.

"I'm glad he's apprehended. There's a good possibility that he could have got hurt, some officer may have shot him, or he could have hurt someone," said Abdalla.

He is being held without bond on a felony charge at the Jefferson County Justice Center.
