Dashcam Video Catches 13-Year-Old Driving Stolen Car

Reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour, a 13-year-old boy led a chase through Wheeling while driving a stolen car, police said.

With his younger twin brothers in tow, the boy stole a car in Columbus, drove more than 100 miles to Wheeling and led police on a chase before crashing, police said.

“The vehicle appeared to be all over the roadway to me. Almost struck a couple of vehicles,” said Deputy G.J. Costello of the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, who attempted to pull the driver over.

Police said the teen stole the car from Columbus on Thursday. After school, he and his twin 11-year-old brothers went on a road trip, traveling two hours from Columbus to Wheeling.

The boys spend the night sleeping in the car outside the Wheeling YWCA before hitting the road again at 5:40 a.m. Police said the boys were hoping to visit their mother in Wheeling.

Costello said the driver was traveling very fast when he struck a hillside and telephone pole, causing the vehicle to roll over on National Road near Woodsdale.

“That’s way, way too fast to be traveling on that road in any circumstance,” Costello said.

The children were taken to Wheeling Hospital and Ohio Valley Medical Center with head and leg injuries.

Police said the boys were released from the hospital and taken to an Ohio County magistrate, who sent them back to Columbus.

Deputies said the children probably won’t face any charges in Ohio County, but will face charges in Columbus.
