Car Crash Sends Christmas Gifts Floating Downstream

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

A car crashed into a creek Wednesday, leaving the driver trapped and her Christmas gifts scattered through the waters.

The woman is recovering with a few bumps and bruises. The major damage, police said is to her car and her gifts.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. on U.S. Route 250 near Harrisville, on the Harrison-Belmont county line.

Police said Laura Kibby, 29, of Martins Ferry, was driving the car when it crashed into the creek.

“She was able to get out through the window after she undid her seat belt. She was able to get out and get to shore. She was very fortunate,” said Trooper Dan Flohr of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

It was not immediately known if Kibby will be cited. The crash remains under investigation.
