Local Pups Become Big Dogs In Hollywood Hit

Marley & Me became the Christmas season hit, raking in $37 million over the holiday weekend and three of the movie's stars were born and raised right here in the Ohio Valley.

Diane Citro and her husband Joe have been breeding English Labradors at their Scio home for nearly 30 years.

Citro told News9 she got the call from Hollywood last January.

"I just got the phone call the one day and I thought it was a joke," said Citro.

She said her dogs have graced the cover of greeting cards across America but she said something about this call was different.

She said they asked specific questions about the types of dogs they were looking for.

"I said is there something going on? I mean what exactly do you need these dogs for? And she said well, we're shooting the movie for 'Marley & Me' in Miami," said Citro.

Fast forward to now, and three of Citro's pups are now movie stars.

Anytime you see the Marley six months or younger on the screen, that's them.

After the filming, all three of the dogs were snatched up by people working on the movie's set.

Citro said they have a bright future ahead of them.

"The one dog the trainer kept is doing nationwide commercials already. And we've been contacted by a couple of other people that wanted us to have the dogs in commercials," said Citro.

Citro said she never dreamed of the dogs making their way to Hollywood. She said even though it's a wonderful feeling, beeing a breeder she has several other dogs to take care of and find their rightful place.

"They go into homes as companions for troubled teens and children that have had surgeries. They also go into nursing homes," said Citro.
