OVRTA To Review Security After Stabbing

An Ohio Valley Regional Transit Authority bus driver has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home after a stabbing at Wheeling’s Intermodal Center on Monday.

OVRTA Executive Director Tom Hvizdos said the incident brings the company’s safety procedures to the forefront.

"We have talked to the police but we are still waiting for the police report, to see what we might be able to review to see if there's anything we can do for a random act of this nature," said Hvizdos. “I think there was a bit of surprise that something like that would happen in Wheeling."

Hvizdos said there's no way to know if the stabbing could have been prevented had security measures been different. And it's a wakeup call for the other drivers.

"Basically mention it to them again that you need to be aware of your environment, if you see anything out of the ordinary, report it in. It never hurts to have someone go and investigate a situation."

Hvizdos said that bus driver plans to return to work when he gets the OK from his family doctor.

The man accused of the stabbing, 46-year-old Charles Liner, is in jail on $50,000 bond.
