Dog Recovering After Being Dragged By Vehicle, Vet Says

A dog in Belmont County is recovering from serious injuries after it was dragged by a vehicle.

Animal care workers said they believe the dog was dragged earlier this week on county Road 4 near Martins Ferry.

"On the front of both legs, almost as if they were drug along a hard surface, he's got a lot of abrasions and the skin is gone," said Alison Bertram, a veterinarian.

The county animal shelter is still in the process of finding the dog's owner. In me meantime, the beagle, nicknamed "Rodie the Underdog" is being treated at the New Horizon Animal Hospital in St. Clairsville.

Worker said there has been an outpouring of love for Rodie from the community and people are donating money for his care.

The dog is not currently up for adoption since the investigation is still under way.
