League President Accused Of Stealing Money From Youth Baseball Team

Investigators told NEWS9 the president of a Carroll County youth baseball league was arrested for allegedly stealing fundraising money.

Nearly $2,000 went missing from the Dellroy Hot Stove Baseball League.

The Carroll County sheriff said discrepancies in the bookkeeping of the team led to the arrest of Robert Schevlin.

Sheriff Dale Williams went to school in Dellroy and said he’s saddened to see funds stolen from his hometown youth baseball team.

Schevlin is in custody for allegedly stealing over $2,000 from the team in 2007 and 2008 -- money the sheriff said was hard-earned, even by the players themselves.

"They have fundraisers where they stand in the middle of the street and take money as donations. All that money goes into their bank account," said Williams.

Last week, two women contacted the sheriff after noticing suspicious activity in the financial records.

The sheriff said what's even more disturbing is that there were no financial records from 1994 to 2007.

The sheriff believes it's possible that Schevlin could easily have stolen funds prior to last year.

"It saddens me that you have a good program where the kids want to play ball and people doing this. I consider this taking from the kids," said Williams.

To help out the Dellroy team, the sheriff's department volunteered alongside many others to repair the field's dugout, food stand and storage shed to be ready in time for the upcoming season.

Schevlin is charged with felony theft.
