Police: Nursing Home Resident Sexually Abused

Police Say Victim Has Alzheimer's Disease

As of late Sunday, Brooke County deputies were investigating a case of sexual abuse at an area nursing home.

Sheriff Richard Ferguson told NEWS9 it happened at the Valley Haven Geriatric Center near Beech Bottom.

Ferguson said around 2 p.m. Sunday nursing home workers called officers after they discovered an 81-year-old visitor fondling an 86-year-old resident with Alzheimer's disease.

Ferguson said the 86-year-old woman is not aware of her surroundings, and the elderly man is facing a charge of abuse of an incapacitated person.

The man is a relative of the alleged victim, according to Ferguson.

The man's identity is not currently being released.
