Engineers Say Colliers Bridge Must Be Replaced

West Virginia Division of Highways engineers said the Colliers Way bridge needs to be replaced.

District 6 engineer Bob Whipp said it would take $3.5 million to replace the span but he is not sure when funding for the project will be available.

Weirton City Manager Gary Dufour said the bridge is vital for the city because it provides direct access to Weirton Medical Center. Dufour said it is also important for future development in that area.

Hospital spokesman Kevin Brown said it could be a serious public safety concern if emergency vehicles would have to detour to the hospital. He said any closure would have a serious impact on the hospital.
