Crews Respond To Gas Leak In Belmont County

Crews were called to a Belmont County gas station Monday morning after a gas leak.

The leak happened just after 10 a.m. at the Buckeye Gas Station at the intersection of National Road and County Road 214.

Fire officials said the property owner was using a backhoe to dig into the hillside next to the business when he accidentally struck a 2-inch line.

The gas station was closed as of 11:30 a.m., but other nearby businesses, including a hotel, remained open. There were no plans to evacuate those businesses.

Lt. Kevin West of the Cumberland Trail Fire Department said there was no immediate danger outside the gas station area, and crews turned off the gas there.

The property owner said he has owned the land for more than 30 years and was not aware of the line's location.
