Sheriff Warns Phony 'Tax Assessors' Going Door To Door

The Harrison County sheriff is sending out a warning to residents after three people in a white minivan have been stopping at homes, claiming to be tax assessors.

Sheriff Ronald Meyers told NEWS9 he got reports of two incidents Friday night -- one on state Route 151 between Jewett and Scio, and another on state Route 646.

The homeowner at the first home didn’t let them in, but Meyers said the phonies did get into the second home.

Once residents got concerned, they called 911 and the van took off, according to Meyers.

"We take this very seriously as a home invasion. Anyone out there with information, please contact our office," said Meyers.

Meyers said no tax assessors would be going door to door at night and said if you see them, don't let them in, get a good description and call for help.
